Definition Refers to chemical substances synthesized by humans that can persist in the environment, accumulate through the biological food chain (web), and cause harmful effects on human health. It has four characteristics: high toxicity, persistence, bioaccumulation, and long-distance migration. For humans at the top of the biological chain, these toxicity are more than 70,000 times larger than the original.
